In memory of local man Henry Trengrouse. The inscription reads "In pious and ever grateful rememberance of Henry Trengrouse, of this borough; who, profoundly impressed by the great loss of life by shipwreck, rendered most signal service to humanity, by devoting the greater portion of his life and means, to the invention and adoption of the "Rocket Apparatus" for communicating between stranded ships and the shore, whereby many thousands of lives have been saved." Trengrouses invention was a rocket propelled rope and apparatus that was fired between ship and shore allowing people to be pulled across to safety. Visit the Helston Folk Museum for examples of the equipment and information on this extraordinary man Photograph By: Views Of Cornwall Team
